BOOKS
Reading is an important activity for all of us. Books can inspire us, challenge us, and cause us to change our course. Books are informative and transformative. A book on how to use a pressure cooker instructs us about using a new tool to make family mealtime faster and easier. A book on the benefits of a Paleo diet transforms our eating habits and health. A biography like Gifted Hands, or An American Son, inspires us to live differently and make a difference in the world. A piece of fiction allows us to escape the stresses of life when we need a little mental break. Books are food for our soul and can be a blessing to us. However, many of us don’t take the time to find good books that can refresh us or improve our life in some way.
Before diving into books written in this century, let me state the obvious. The most significant reading material for transforming our heart and mind is the Bible. Considered the best-selling book of all time, the Bible has influenced the human race for centuries. Whether viewed as a piece of literature, a record of history, or the Word of God, lives have been forever changed when faith is placed in the truth of Scripture.
Reading scripture is like a daily personal retreat. Scripture instructs, guides, exhorts, encourages, and ultimately demands a response. I Timothy 3:16-17 makes is clear, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
On the What I’m Reading page, I will share my recent or favorite books. My prayer is that you are encouraged and inspired to live more purposefully, and find joy in your reading. Please share some of your favorite books with me.
