My Faith and Family
At a young age, God in His grace and mercy opened my eyes to Him. Through the message of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross as an expression of His love and my need for a Savior, I responded to His offer of forgiveness. This truth forever changed me and set me on a path to live for Him. Therefore, my Christian faith permeates and influences every aspect of my life-my family, my educational philosophy, my education, and my experiences. Looking through the lens of scripture, I evaluate and assess my pursuits, my actions, my relationships, and my purpose. My faith cannot be disconnected or compartmentalized. Consequently, as founder of Life and Learning you will find my faith applied to everything from learning theory to parenting practices.
Faith is also the foundation of our family culture. As parents, we endeavored to follow Deuteronomy 6:5-7, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise”.
In addition to faith, education is highly valued as part of our family culture. Family activities and vacations involved learning experiences. Our children grew up with a love for learning and a solid understanding of God’s story. Influenced by his childhood experiences, our son pursued a degree in Business Administration, works for a national company, and was just awarded National Salesman of the Year. Our daughter, who as a preschooler declared her desire to be a doctor, went back to medical school after working as a Physician’s Assistant for several years and works in Emergency Medicine. And last but not least, our precious grandchildren provide fresh opportunity to explore and discover God’s creation over again, through their eyes.
