The Trumpet of the Swan by E. B. White, is one of my favorite books for family reading.
Louis is a trumpeter swan, but unlike his four brothers and sisters, he is not able to make a joyful sound. This inability to trumpet leaves him at a disadvantage in winning over the beautiful swan Serena. With great determination, imagination, and help from a friend, Louis find a way to overcome the obstacle he faces.
In addition to the story line of Louis, you will enjoy the adventure of Sam Beaver, the little boy who discovered Louis on a camping trip with his father. After reading this book with your children, like me, you may want to visit Billings, Montana to get a glimpse of these beautiful animals.
A great read aloud for ages 6 and up. I think you will love this one!
